A temporary, unpaid leave from work for a pre-determined length of time, as set by the company. For example, for budgetary reasons due to special circumstances, such as a sudden or temporary shift in the market, an employer might ask all its employees to take a month of unpaid leave, or to take one day a week of unpaid leave for the rest of the year.
